As many people know, I’m 37 weeks pregnant! So many things need to be done in preparation for my baby girl’s debut. One thing that has been on my mind: how will I capture those precious early days after my daughter’s arrival? Several friends of mine had newborn photography done for their children. What better way to preserve the first few day’s of my baby’s life? I recently had the chance to sit down and meet with newborn photographer, Oleksandra Stelmah from Stelma Photo. I had a chance to see some of her beautiful work on Instagram so I was very excited about the chance to interview her and learn some more information about newborn photography. Enjoy the highlights from our discussion!

Q: What age do you typically see babies for a newborn photo shoot?
A: To guarantee your spot, I suggest booking 2-3 months in advance. The exact session date is scheduled once the baby is born. I typically complete newborn shoots before the baby is 14 days old to get the beautiful sleepy poses you see in my portfolio. If your baby is already here, please reach out to see if I can still accommodate you.

Q: What measures are taken during a shoot in the studio to ensure safety and cleanliness?
A: All outfits and props are sanitized and washed before each session. All materials used during your session are carefully selected from top newborn industry vendors and are all hypoallergenic.

Q: What is my baby starts crying during a shoot? Or needs to eat?
A: I allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and mama snuggles. I keep sessions relaxed and low stress. I follow baby time!

Q: What do you love the most about newborn photography?
A: I truly love everything about newborns! I feel blessed to have the opportunity to capture this fleeting moment for you to cherish forever.
